Baby Jehosaphat

My child has been named Jehosaphat by my coteacher for forensic science class (which is awesome, but I am clueless about science).

The baby is doing well, even though I'm not a fan of his nickname....especially since we don't even know if it's a boy or not.  We find out October 5th!  I can't wait!  I feel like knowing what we're having will make it more real.  I haven't felt him (I'm working under this assumption for now) move yet, so I just work and enjoy Camille and hang out with Brian like we aren't about to have two kiddos.  I got to hear his heartbeat Tuesday, and it's 144!  Looking good!

Camille is doing super well at daycare.  They apparently read rhymes to the kids today and the teacher made a note that Camille "even laughed at rhymes", which means she must have been very smile free there for the past week.  I'm glad she's getting happier there!  She also slept in the bed yesterday (instead of in the swing), and played on the floor.  Go girl!  Getting better and better!

She had a mild fever Monday when she woke up from her nap, but then it went away--so she had a little sinus drainage happening, but that's all cleared up.  She had a little but rash (from heat?) yesterday, but that's better.  However...she has what look like ant bites on her hands and legs, but we can't figure out where they came from!  We're watching to make sure she doesn't get any new ones, but today when I picked her up she was laying in the swing and there was a small flying insect on her puppy--so it could be happening at daycare (we thought it was at home).  I have no clue.  Luckily, they aren't bothering her.

Work is going well....well, it took a dip today and yesterday, but it's going okay.  Definitely busy, and that makes days fly by.  My first period (forensic science) is awesome---the kids are great, they're motivated, they're hilarious, and my coteacher is hysterical.  We've managed to split the work up well and things are good.  She's a lot of fun and it's a great way to start every day.  Unfortunately my other classes, which are all gifted classes, aren't moving quite as quickly.  I have great kids, but they tend to argue over every topic or point or they are so easily distracted that we get nothing done, or they're so lazy they don't try and don't complete things.  I'm having to be a lot meaner this year, which makes the class a lot less fun.  There's also a lot of disrespect going on, which is a constant battle and will ultimately result in referrals...which is shocking for this group of kids.  All of that makes me a little upset and disappointed.  Oh well...

The good part is: the staff.  We're getting better at getting together and being more united (I think, at least).  Today we had a staff ping pong tournament, and it was awesome.  I lost immediately, but it was so fun!  We had a good time.  I'm thinking we should make that a monthly thing.

That's all going on this week.  We'll get to see our Texas nephews tomorrow, at least for a little bit; and C will get to see her Godparents!  Should be good times.

Glucose Test

I went in today to do my glucose test (much earlier this time around because of my "healthy size"...cough, cough).

Only, I never got to do it.  I was running late because Camille slept until 7:40 (after waking up at 5:30 for some Daddy cuddle time--awwww).  Then, when I got there I was told they weren't expecting me.  That was interesting because I specifically asked my nurse if I needed to make an appointment and she said no.  Wrong.  You're supposed to.  However, they were great and were going to let me do it anyway.  She handed me a "sample" cup and I headed back.

Here's the problem.  You have to fast for these test--no food, no nothing--not even water!  So, I didn't have to go to the bathroom.  I mean, not at all.  I tried and tried and tried.  The lab even opened the little peephole window into the bathroom several times WHILE I was in there (it doesn't open all the way into the bathroom--whew).  Okay...not good, but maybe they don't have to have it to start?  I asked...and was told again that they weren't expecting me, but if I could "rush the urine" they could do it.  They had to have the sample though.  Oh...rush the urine...sure...no problem.

I ended up tossing the cup and heading home.  How ridiculous is that?  First of all, the glucose test makes no sense to me (of course, I don't have a background in medicine or science).  Starve yourself and become dehydrated, then we're going to load you up on sugar.  This will tell us how your body normally responds to sugar throughout the day.........?  Really?  I don't normally go without water for that long, then chug sugary beverages.  Maybe I'm just bitter because I have to go back AGAIN next week and hope I don't get sick while getting blood taken three times and being high on pure sugar.  Also...I may need to drink about 5 times more water than I'm currently drinking.

Good news is:  baby's heartbeat is looking good!  We're at about 11 weeks, so hopefully I'll be feeling better before too long.

Hittin' the Tums early!

***This was written July 14th****

I'm already munching on Tums like they're my fuel supply for the day.  They might actually make up more calories than my meals some days since I have an aversion to all things edible (except Tums--thank goodness).

I'm down 6 pounds.  Who would have thought that getting pregnant would help me get those last few pounds off, huh?  Last few.  Ha.  I have so many pounds to lose, but I'm actually below where I started with Camille.  I think I had more muscle then though since I had been running.  It's long gone now.

I'm debating about which kind of stroller we should get.  We need a double, for sure.  I'm thinking a side by side would be nice because they are apparently easier to maneuver and both kids can see and when they're both bigger it'll be nice.  BUT....I can't use that for a teeny tiny baby, can I?  Plus they're so wide I may not be able to go anywhere with it except the zoo or any other outdoor place.  Let's face it:  It's HOT down here in the summers when I'd be using it, so indoor places would be my preference.

The front/back ones are good because I can put the infant seat straight into the back of the stroller and buckle Camille into the front and they're narrower so we could go shopping or something.  Plus if the baby is sleeping in there I can keep it close to me and have the baby facing me while Camille is playing or whatever is happening.  They're just so bulky...but that makes the most sense.  I can't jog with that one though, but again--by the time I'd be up for that it'll be summer, and jogging outside with small children won't happen anyway.  Way too hot.  I'll just have to talk Mom into watching them while I get on her elliptical I guess.

Sometimes I get completely freaked out by the fact that we are having another baby already.  I'm totally dreading having to pump again, but the great news is: I shouldn't have to do it regularly until the baby's already 6 months!  By then if I really hate it, at least I won't have long to go--and however long I make it I'll be proud and glad and won't feel too bad if I can't make it much longer at work.  I just HATE pumping.  I guess because it's still fresh in my memory.  I don't know why, but I remember hating it.  :/

For now, I try not to think of how insane next summer will be.  I'm surviving on a bowl of cereal, a nectarine, and a bowl of soup a day....by the hardest.  Sometimes we have ice cream at night too.  It makes me feel awful afterwards, but I feel awful anyway--so why not?  Plus I'm dropping weight--I figure the baby needs some fat in there!

I'm also still keeping it a secret from most people still...we're only 9 weeks in.  We're trying to wait until 12 weeks to start spreading the news so that we know the baby's still doing well.  We don't go back to the doctor until July 25th.  I have a feeling that after that appointment I won't be able to keep it in anymore.  I"m HORRIBLE at secrets--especially when this one is making it hard to go places, eat things, etc.  We also have a swim party this weekend to go to.  What can I say about how my stomach is poking out more already???  Yeah--I never lost it from Camille!  (I lost the weight, but it is still all soft and different...needed to do more on that, but ooops.)  I just want to say, "It's a baby!" and be able to feel less self conscious.  It's all family though, so I'll manage (or just tell them).

Okay--off to nap while Camille's asleep.  I'm going see Harry Potter at midnight tonight....idiot that I am.    This is already nap #2 for today in preparation.

****UPDATE: I'm down 10 pounds (August 15) and am starting to feel better.  That could be because work has started, so I'm too busy to notice if I feel sick.****

Oh boy...maybe?

So, we're thinking baby 2 has to be a boy because I feel HORRIBLE.  I know...I've already whined about it enough--sorry.  Surely there's a different hormone system in there if I'm feeling 10 times worse than last time.  I'm hoping it's a boy so that maybe we can take a baby break.  I'm sort of scared of having two under 2 and of having to nurse while keeping Camille enertained at such a young age.

Anyone have any insight on boy vs. girl pregnancies?  I've always read that being pregnant with girls makes you more sick, but I didn't feel anywhere near this bad with Camille.  My sis-in-law says she felt awful with both of her boys, so she's terrified of having a girl..but maybe wha we've been reading is all messed up.

Thoughts?

Baby 2's first checkup!

It is really hard to come up with a blog topic that isn't related to the new baby right now!  Mostly because I am trying to survive each day playing with Camille without getting sick and without totally ripping her off. It'd be so easy to plop her in front of the TV and put Mickey on--she is completely in love with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  She smiles so big when Mickey walks up that path in the intro.  Cute!

We went to the doctor Monday and our newest little addition is only 6 weeks along.  I had a weird cycle last time, so I guess that made our timing a little off.  We are due February 16th!  Smack in the middle of my brother and my mom's birthdays.  That's a good time because I'll either not have to go back to work at all, or not have to go too long.  :)  That should make nursing much easier and more successful this time around, which is great!  Baby is looking healthy and the little heart is already going!  So cute!  It's as amazing to see the second time around!  I just can't believe how life works.  So fantastic!

Downside: I feel so so sick--every day, all day!  I am trying to be positive and think that this means that things are going well.  Yesterday wasn't as bad, which is good because we were out almost all day.  Maybe I just need to be more active so I can be distracted, or maybe being active actually makes me feel better.  Tomorrow we're going visit family and Friday I'm going to try and find a rug!  We need one SO bad for our living room!  It is slow going on finding one that isn't extremely pricey or really thin.  Siiiiigh.

All I've been able to eat today is life cereal.  Two bowls and nothing else...bleh.  The only other food I can eat on a regular basis is Chef Boyardee Ravioli (or spaghetti or the like).  I am craving tomato sauce so badly--but not even the good kind.  The canned kind!  Yum?  I love the stuff though...it's ridiculous.  With Camille I remember wanting sweets all of the time--my biggest weaknesses were Icees and oreo cakesters.  Good grief!  No wonder I got so enormous!  At least there's a serving of veggies in each can of ravioli.  :)

Sleeping is okay--I feel sicker at night, and if I wake up in the night I feel awful so it's hard to go back to sleep.  Last night I had a bug land on my face and then saw it crawl on my pillow.  Needless to say, I didn't sleep much after that.  Bleh.  We still haven't found the bug!  :(

I'm not trying to whine--sorry.  I just totally forgot about this part of pregnancy.  I remembered how much I loved being pregnant and how great I felt...but that was all after the first trimester.  Plus this one's a little rockier; I guess they are all different.  Hopefully this doesn't last much longer.  I also have extreme issues with sound and touch--I don't like being close to people and I hate loud or obnoxious noises; they make my stomach turn.  Poor Brian...it's hard to even hug sometimes.  Just 6 more weeks, right?  :/

The exciting stuff is coming--we're going to paint the rooms and get all set for both kiddos.  Camille's going to move into the other room with a twin bed and toddler rails with the time comes (not until after the baby gets here, of course).  It'll be her big girl room.  Can't believe we're already planning for that!

Name picking is going to be a challenge...me and B have totally different tastes in baby names, so it was hard to agree on Camille.  We have lots of time though.

Wow...two babies under 2.  I'm tired just thinking about it, but I'm so excited!  They'll be so cute.  I'm going to need pointers on double strollers, wraps/slings, and all of those things that my friends that are mothers of multiple kids use!  :)

Also, I'd love to find some really good, cheap nursing shirts.  I'll have to nurse in public more with baby 2, so I want to be prepared.  Any recommendations?    Thanks!!!
