1) How do YOU warm up your breast milk? Frozen and refrigerated?
2) How do you know how much to give your baby?
3) Anyone ever have their baby's cord fall off, but it bleeds for a while (days) afterwards?? Suggestions? We are cleaning it with alcohol several times a day to dry it out, but it's still bleeding.
I thawed my frozen breastmilk in the fridge overnight, or in a container of very warm water. To heat it for feedings, we put it in a bottle and used a bottle warmer - no microwave.
ReplyDeleteAs far as how much to give, at her age Addison couldn't drink more than an ounce or two at a time. But she was REALLY tiny - but for Camille I would think 3-4 ounces would be plenty. And Addison usually fell asleep before she finished anyway.
For the cord - yes several days for us too. Cleaned with alcohol. Not sure if we used neosporin or anything - I think just alcohol.
By the way if you google your questions there are some great breastfeeding guidelines out there - I found them when Addison was little. Didn't save them or I would forward them to you.
You're doing great Pam!! Keep up the good work :)
B-milk we put it in a cup of hot water. We just left it out on the counter to get it to room temp (or put it in the cup). Noah's never been that picky about temps, though.. At daycare - they keep an old crock put with a silverware container in it to hold the bottles. genius.
ReplyDeleteWe did 4 oz for a LOOONNNGG time but I don't remember when that started.. I'd guess 2-3 at her age.. there is a formula depending on her weight/age.. google it - my doc always said go with the lower end of the spectrum for it.
Thanks!!! It's so nice having such great friends that have been through these stages already! I don't know what I'd do without other moms around!
ReplyDeleteMy doctor told us that it's half of their body weight minus one ounce - so if they're 10 lbs, it's 10oz/2 minus one, so it'd be 4 oz per serving. It's hard to know - sometimes they eat more, sometimes less. Melanie is a huge spitter-upper, so we were never sure if she was getting enough. But, she gained weight and grew normally, so the dr said she was getting enough. :-)
