Weak Ligaments?

So, after falling and having a giant boot on for two days so far and speaking with several ladies I have found out that a lot of pregnant women have falls late in pregnancy.  Or, at least a lot in my mind!
Scary!!!

Two reasons (from what they've had doctors tell them):

1. Weak ligaments from the relaxin that helps with the loosening of joints for labor.  Your ankles and feet get the same effects, so your ankles roll a lot easier.  That makes sense.  I feel like that is probably what happened to my ankle, but thank goodness it was so loose or it may have just snapped!  Agh!

2.  Nerve pinching!  Of course!  Baby girl is so low right now I can feel her on my pelvic bones all the time.  Someone else had a similar experience--where they just had noodle legs out of nowhere and fell.  The doctor told her it could be the baby pinching a nerve so that you loose feeling and therefore misjudge things and fall.  That makes sense--it explains why I never felt my feet touch the ground and had no control over them.

So, Ladies!!!  Be careful!!  Apparently this happens fairly often.  That makes me worry about the next week or so until she gets here.  I certainly can't handle another one of those episodes at this point!

  1. Hope you're better soon! I think I was an oddball.. My balance never seemed off - I think yoga helped with that.. I could still to balance poses at 30+ weeks..

  2. I didn't feel like it was a balance issue--I haven't really been off balance. It was more that I just couldn't feel my legs touching the ground. It was really surreal. I definitely think doing yoga and stretching could help with the nerves though--maybe make things flex in the right places or something.

  4. Hhahaa--maybe just some braces? Just walk slowly!! Someone else yesterday said it happened to them too when they were 8 months pregnant! She broke a toe.

I think I'd be less worried about it if we weren't trying to have the baby naturally--I will need some serious mobility, and I don't want to have to worry about contraction pain and furthering the damage to the ankle at the same time. Maybe it'll help distract me from contractions?
