Fall is in the air!

Well, guess which team I cheer for!  :)  It's a gorgeous day--the weather is amazing and cool and dry!  I'm so excited about having the baby in this kind of weather!  It'll be so much more comfortable and cuddly and happy.  It's got to be one of the happiest times of year, for sure.  I'm 38 weeks now--moving right along!

The foot is healing up--still swollen and bruised and tender to walk on, but improving daily (except for yesterday after work--it was blue and felt horrible!!).

I'm definitely making room as a new mamma already.  Some of my priorities have already shifted (although not as many as will).

Example (MEN--DON"T READ--I'd be embarrassed):

1. I no longer feel that I need to worry about wearing nice bras.  I haven't been comfortable in my underwire bras at all lately, so poof--they're gone.  I wear these sports bra type things because dangit, these babies have gotten out of control!!!  I can't go out and buy all new bras for a temporary (hopefully) increase in size.  I do have some nursing bras, but for now I'm okay with having smaller looking and way more comfortable boobs.

2. I am less concerned about the state of my hair.  While I did recently get a new hair cut (which I love), I don't worry about washing it in the mornings at all anymore.  I wash it at night, blow it out, then in the morning I'll try to fix it, and if it still looks bad I pull it out of my face and go to work unphased.  I used to be a serious morning wash nazi.  Good thing I'm comfortable with it looking shabby (and have even figured out how to go without washing it for two whole days)--I have a feeling that when C gets here, that will happen fairly often.

Those are shallow changes in priority--but things I've recently noticed.

Some books I've been reading:
"So That's What Those are For"--about Breastfeeding and "On Becoming Babywise"--about sleep patterns and stuff.  They seem contradictory at times, but they are both good.  I am trying to soak up as many tips and facts as possible so that when she gets here I can pick out the ones that work for us quickly.  I have dogeared many pages to use as a quick reference if needed.  My favorite is still "Baby 411"--with quick references about EVERYTHING.  Their other book, "Baby Bargains" was also a huge help in registering and buying baby things.  I recommend those two above all.
I'm excited about Babywise though.  At first I felt like it was a "nazi" book that was way too rigid, but it's not.  It offers some seriously practical and helpful stuff and I have a feeling I'll lean towards it versus the other sleep book I got which is "The No Cry Sleep Solution"...which tends to lean towards co-sleeping (which terrifies me--B and I would roll over the baby) and then also has a lot of common sense things in it.  Also, the first 70 pages were like an advertisement for the book.  HELLO--I already bought it!!!  That aggravated me.

  1. Have you bought a few nursing bras for sleeping? They won't lift the gals, but are great for keeping the Lansinoh breast pads in place. I think I slept in mine for at least 8 months...granted I had more milk than the Kleinpeter Dairy. -claire

  3. Thanks Claire! I actually bought one like that, so I'm glad to know it's good! I have just one for now--figured I'd test it out first. I have two others--one's not so comfortable, and the other is comfortable now--but I'm not sure how big the girls will get, so who knows. I figured I'd wait and see which ones I prefer, and then stock up--or at least get enough to rotate.

Thanks Jenny! I am super happy--can't wait to meet her. I'm sure we'll post pictures and stuff eventually. I don't know how quick we'll be with it, but some family and friends should have something to show. :)

  4. I got my nursing bras at Walmart - the cheap $8 ones. I wore them around the clock for 4 months and found them comfortable to sleep in too. Have I given you my sleep tips yet? Swaddle! We swaddled Addison every night until she was 18 months (no kidding) and she loved it. Slept as snug as a bug in a rug :) ususally for 12 hours at a time. We also have a music box that lights up and softly plays music and also projects a picture onto the ceiling. If she did wake up we would just give her the pacifier, turn the music box on and back to sleep she would go! We also use a noise machine (Babies R Us $20) worth every penny. We've had to upgrade to a box fan since they are doing house construction next door, but the noise machine worked great for a long time. Good luck!

  5. Love your blog Pam....just discovered it...you'll definitely appreciate looking back on it later. About that Baby Wise book...I really didn't appreciate that book when I read it either...I believe that if you want to rock your baby to sleep, then rock her....they only let you rock them for so long, and before you know it, they think they're to big to be rocked! Do what your motherly instincts tell you to:)
