False Alarm / Graphic Post-use your judgement.

Okay..again...shield your eyes from this if you are uncomfortable reading about detailed birth-related information.

Today I woke up and was so excited to see that I had some leakage going on.  I know, that's gross.  I'm sorry.  But at this point, it doesn't take much to get pumped up.  I tried to remain calm though and see if maybe it was just a fluke or (God help me) an accident.

Luckily--it wasn't an accident.  I called Brian and told him to be near a phone, that I was going to see how long it continued and just keep an eye on things.

I had a little bit going on throughout the day, so around noon I called the doctor to set up an appointment to go in and have things checked out.  I went in at 3:30 this afternoon all excited, because I also had a little bit of "plug bits" that were tinged pink.  Here we go!!

Wrong.  I went to the doctor and got an ultrasound (I was scheduled for one tomorrow afternoon anyway) and the baby's fluid is still at 16.2 (apparently they worry at 6).  This is the same level it was at the last time we went in so she was saying it was probably my bladder leaking.  Um...it didn't feel like that's where it was coming from, and I still had to go to the restroom (more often than normal even) and it didn't smell at all.  So...what??  I was unhappy with that response.

After that, off to be examined.  WOW.  That gets less and less pleasant.  Her thumb was definitely crushing part of my anatomy that shouldn't be pressed on.  I mean, it was awful.  This entry is way too graphic for people--I apologize.  I'm documenting it as it happened though for future reference (for me).

Moving on.  She thought she could maybe make things happen, so she went for it.  Apparently my cervix is still way back and all of the pulling she did didn't help.  Ouch.  Still just one cm; maybe one and a half on a good day.  So, I am currently sitting indian style on the floor to help move things along.

Since I've been home I've lost more of the plug though and seen some "bloody show"...is that not the most awful name ever for this?!!  Let's come up with something better...I mean seriously!

Good news too:  I've lost 2 pounds since last week...and have been eating like a fool.  The baby is 8 pounds and has lots of fluid and is doing really well, so I'm not worried about her.  I think the 2 pounds are fluid from my body--I've been sweating like a man.  I mean, pouring sweat!  I guess that's good--except I'm worried that after she gets here I won't drop as fast because I will have already lost some of that excess fluid.  Bright side, that's 10 pounds gone really.  Wahoo!  That means I only have about 30 to lose after she comes.  That's still a lot, but I was getting stories about people gaining 70-80 pounds.  I would never recover from that.

Okay...let's pray C plans to get active soon and come on out.  I will be sitting on the floor as much as possible from now on and will be doing lots and lots of squats and stretching.  Full moon this weekend too!!

Quote of the day: "It's all soft and squishy in there, so that's good."

Wow.

  1. Yeah the mucus plug/bloody show.. I'm with you. I had a few signs, but never noticeable contractions.. and the full moon passed by me at 39 weeks with just a laugh. At least everything is still good and they're not planning to induce.. is that in the plan if you go past 42?

  2. Next Thursday we're going to have a decision to make, so I've been told. Sounds like we can either break my water and hope for the best or start me on pitocin mildly to get contractions started, then take me off. I am really trying to avoid pitocin, so I'm really really hoping she wants to come out before then.

  5. Go Jannean!!! Alexis below you is going natural too, so you've got support if you ever need any info or encouragement! Thanks--I'm glad you are enjoying reading it. :) I enjoy keeping track of how it's all going. From what I hear, people don't remember much about pregnancy/delivery, so I want to document everything.

I am really hoping that decision isn't mine to make next week Alexis! Good thoughts everyone!

  6. Did they do a litmus strip test? I was leaking like that, and they put a strip of litmus paper in me, then checked it AND ran a "fern?" test to see if it was, in fact, amniotic fluid. The fact that I still had enough fluid (ultrasound) wasn't a concern...it was that if you leak fluid for too long before labor, then bacteria can travel inside. I was also strep positive for this pregnancy, but I don't think they even read my chart to realize that before sending me straight to delivery. Claire P.S.-I rough exam (albeit painful) was probably the best thing to get things going!
