Mom Boobs

I would like to thank my friend, and recent new mom, Alexis for using the term "Mom boobs".  I now have a name for this insanity.  Shirts just don't fit the same and you can only wear these ridiculously unsupportive nursing bras while nursing...no underwire???  I mean...thanks a lot.

Brian and I went on a date last weekend--it was fantastic to get out and be with each other without worrying about Camille (she was in excellent hands--my sister's).  We enjoyed ourselves, and I loved every minute of that underwire!  I felt like I'd lost 10 pounds.  My clothes fit so differently and my whole body shape changes.  One day, we will be reunited.  Unfortunately, it could be years from now since I want to have more kids pronto.  :)

Camille is a serious champion.  She learned a new trick to-day!  I was playing with her this afternoon right after work and had a toy in front of her while she was on her belly on the floor.  Then, suddenly, she was on top of the toy!  Whaaaat?  She planted her hands, lifted up a little and then pushed with her feet and lunged forward!!!!  That girl is about to crawl!  She did it several times and then finally pushed up so hard with one arm that she flipped onto her back.  She moved all over the play mat and even scooted to the side at one point.  I am impressed.  Apparently my Dad has been showing her how to push off.  I think my parents could teach parenthood classes--they are teaching her things I didn't think you could teach a baby!  No wonder me and my siblings are so amazing (hehehhehehe).  Seriously--I don't know what they are doing with her daily, but it's developing her muscles and getting her going!

She did it again tonight, but she had skipped a nap so she didn't do it as much for her Daddy.  Soon he will see and we will be frightened that our time of laziness will be gone.  :)

What do you nursing moms with older babies think about solid foods?  When did you start them on foods and why did you start then?  Suggestions on things to start with?  Concerns about food allergies?  I feel like I need to be looking into this more than I am.  I will work on finding time to do that, I greatly respect and appreciate y'all's thoughts!

  1. Oh MAN! I can totally relate to "Mom boobs." That is the one thing I dread about nursing. Sagging boobs have a lovely way of making you look like you weight about 20 lbs more than you do. I am not giving up on trying to find a more supportive nursing bra--there's GOT to be something out there...

As for the solids, I want to say I started Amber around 4-5 months and Audrey right around 4 because we were having reflux problems with her. The pediatrician had said it was fine to start anywhere between 4-6 months.

I started with rice cereal mixed with breastmilk. After a few days with that I tried another grain, and so on till I covered them all. That was the recommendation so if she did have an allergic reaction, you'd know what the culprit was. Then I started with veggies, sometimes mixing it with a cereal and sometimes not. Then we did fruits, and then meats. Mine both hated the meats, but did better with the combos--such as chicken and apples.

I don't think there's any big rush with the solids--so many people swore up and down that it made the kid sleep better, but I doubt that seriously. Especially considering how LITTLE actually gets into their mouths at first!!

  2. Dang--that's totally what I was hoping for, but I just read too that breastmilk has way more calories than food, so that's not going to do the trick. I think we are getting close to the "cry it out" stage....I'm not looking forward to that, but I am super excited about nights without waking up. I know she can sleep all night because she used to, but I have taught her some bad sleep habits!

Do you remember or know how many ounces your babies were taking in at 4 months old (breastmilk)?

  3. Pam - we started solids just shy of 6 months.. Noah would look at our foods with such lust, we knew it was time.. BUT it was right before our Disney trip, so I had been avoiding solids... so, I started him with bananas and avocados pretty quickly. Check out wholesomebabyfood.com for tips/advice - helped me more than once!

As for crying it out - Adam did it while I went out of town.. I'm so glad I wasn't here for it, but it made our lives so much better!

At 4 months, Noah drank 4 oz every 3 hours and woke up 1 time per night to nurse.

Oh and yeah those bras suck, but I did find 1 underwire that fit perfectly... Target, I think. Luckily, they're all WAY too big for me now and I'm back to sad pathetic little bras :)

  4. Hey I seriously refuse to live without underwires. I have 2 underwire nursing bras. I got them from walmart or target or motherhood. Forgot. Worth it! love them.
